Project Scope: The client's goal was to create a unique and impactful patio that would serve as the focal point of their backyard. They specifically requested a move away from traditional earth tones in favor of a bold, black finish. The project required the installation of a new stamped concrete patio, complete with integrated steps to naturally connect the patio level with the lower yard.

Design & Execution: Achieving a deep, lasting black color was the primary design objective. This required a multi-stage process:

1. Integral Color: We used a high-quality, deep black integral color mixed directly into the concrete. This ensures the color is not just topical but runs through the entire slab, preventing fading from "salt-and-pepper" wear over time.

2. Stamping & Texture: A textured stamp pattern was applied to the surface, which works exceptionally well with the dark color to catch light and shadow, adding depth and a non-slip characteristic.

3. Integrated Steps: The steps were formed and poured as part of the main patio, creating a monolithic, seamless structure that feels fully integrated into the design.

4. Sealing for Vibrancy: The final, and most critical, step was the application of a high-solids, color-enhancing sealer. This process is what truly "activates" the deep black, turning it from a matte finish to a vibrant, rich tone while providing essential protection against UV rays and weather.
